The statistics available in my Department in relation to road works do not show the amounts attributable to wages. The wages content of any road work will vary according to the type of work involved and the location of the work. I think that it would be safe to assume that of the expenditure on road works throughout the whole country 40 per cent. to 45 per cent. would represent the amount of wages paid directly by local authorities.
