Vol. 153 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway School.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the national school at Kiltartan, Gort, County Galway, is in a deplorable condition and that the delay in building a new school is causing concern in the district; and, if so, if he will have the building of the required new school expedited.

I am aware that the condition of the present Kiltartan National School, Gort, County Galway, is such that its replacement by a new school is an urgent necessity.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to his previous question on the 23rd February, 1955, a grant towards the cost of the erection of a new school has been sanctioned by my Department. There has, however, been some unavoidable delay owing to necessary investigations as to the feasibility of obtaining, on or near the site, an adequate supply of water for a water-flushed system of sanitation at the new school. The question of the sanitation will be settled as soon as possible and when this has been done every effort will be made to expedite the completion of the remaining preliminary arrangements which have to be made in order to enable building operations to be put in hands.
