Vol. 153 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Meath Farms.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give particulars of farms in County Meath, which have been acquired for division and which are at present in the possession of the Land Commission, indicating how long each farm has been in the possession of the Commission, and when they expect to be in a position to allocate it.

Particulars of lands on hands in County Meath, in the form of a tabular statement, will, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, be circulated in the Official Report.

Because of the many uncertain factors involved it is impossible to forecast with any degree of accuracy either the area of allotments or number of allottees. If the Deputy names a particular case or cases in which he is interested, I will examine the position and give my opinion as to the probable time of allotment.

Following is the statement:—

In addition, there are various remnants of estates and small units on hands.

Would the Minister say if it is a fact that some lands have been in the possession of the Land Commission for the last seven or eight years and have been set in conacre over that period? Does the Minister think that should be allowed to continue?

I am afraid the Deputy is not correct in that. If I might be permitted to run down the table: Kelly, Summerhill, one month; O'Brien, Athboy, two months; Dunleckney, Dunshaughlin, five months; Cunningham, Mountland, Butterhouse, Walterstown—three townlands—Trim, six months; Sarsfield Demesne, Old-castle, six months; Sheridan, Navan, ten months; Brady, Nobber, 11 months; Murray, Enfield, one year.

The Minister only started work this year so!

I do not think there is much common sense in that remark, but it is in keeping with the Deputy's general remarks.
