asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of persons registered pursuant to the provisions of the Health Act, 1953, on the general medical services register, and the total number of persons at present entitled to general medical and surgical benefits under the Act.

The number of persons (including dependents) registered in the General Medical Services Registers pursuant to the provisions of the Health Act, 1953, is 489,081. These persons and any other persons who, though unable by their own industry or other lawful means to provide the services for themselves, have so far failed to register, are entitled to general medical and surgical services under the Act.
