asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the official canvass in the parish of Templenoe, near Kenmare, revealed that 81 per cent. of the householders were prepared to accept service under the rural electrification scheme, and, if so, when work on the extension of electrification to the area is likely to begin; further, when an official canvass is likely to be undertaken in the Tahilla-Sneem districts, west of Templenoe.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Templenoe area has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected. The board states that while the percentage of acceptances in the area is almost 81 the returns have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the board's Tralee district due mainly to the low density population and the small size of the houses. The areas will be reconsidered for selection by the board in due course and the board's decision will depend on how the area's returns compare with those for other areas awaiting development at the time in the board's Tralee district.
I am also informed that it is expected that the official canvass of the Tahilla-Sneem districts will be undertaken by next autumn.
asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the cause of the delay in extending rural electrification to (1) Glenbeigh and (2) Glencar, and what efforts are being made to overcome the difficulties which are holding up the extension of electrification to these areas.
I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Glenbeigh area has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions but has not so far been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those for other areas awaiting development in the board's Tralee district. The board states that the prospects of the area being selected would be considerably improved if there were an increase in the number of householders who are willing to accept supply.
I am also informed that an official canvass of Glencar rural area will be undertaken towards the end of next year. The area will then be considered for selection by the board and the board's decision will depend on how its returns compare with those for other areas still awaiting development at the time in the board's Tralee district.
asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what progress has been made in connection with the development of rural electrification in the Iveragh peninsula.
I am informed by the E.S.B. that a transmission line which will serve this district has been erected to the immediate vicinity of Cahirciveen. Official canvasses have already been carried out in some areas and will be carried out in further areas during the coming year. The prospects of the development of these areas will depend on how their returns compare with those for other areas still awaiting development at the time in the board's Tralee district.
asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the present position in regard to the proposal to extend rural electrification to the village of Barnaduff and the surrounding districts in County Kerry.

The area will be consisidered for selection by the board early in 1956 and the board's decision will depend on how its returns compare with those for other areas still awaiting development at the time in the board's Tralee district.
