asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the importance of and necessity for promoting an increased savings campaign, he is prepared to increase (a) the interest rate on Post Office savings deposits from 2½ per cent. to at least 4 per cent. and (b) the maximum deposit from £2,000 to £5,000.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. As regards the second part, the adequacy of the existing limit of £2,000 on Post Office Savings Bank deposits is at present under review.
