Vol. 154 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel Consumption.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of the period 1951 to 1955, the approximate percentage of our fuel consumption, calculated on an energy basis, which was provided from (a) native resources, and (b) imported fuels; further, if he will state the cost of fuel imported in the same period.

It is estimated that of the total fuel consumption, including that of electricity, the proportion (on an energy basis) derived from native resources during the period 1951-55 was 44 per cent. the residue 56 per cent. being derived from imported fuels. These figures are subject to revision when more accurate data for the year 1955 become available.

During the same five-year period the total value of fuels imported was £112.7 million and the value of the retained imports of fuels was £105.1 million.
