Vol. 155 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Galway Areas.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the E.S.B. last carried out a canvass of the Lettermore and Lettermullen area and with what result; further, when rural electrification is likely to be extended to this thickly populated area.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that an official canvass of the Lettermore area which includes Lettermullen has recently been completed and disclosed that 57 per cent. of the householders had agreed to take supply. The area will be considered for selection in due course and the board's decision will depend on how the area's returns compare with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Galway district.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the E.S.B. last carried out a canvass in the Knock-Carraroe area and with what result; further, when rural electrification is likely to be extended to this thickly populated area.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the last canvass of this area, which was carried out in the summer of 1955, disclosed that 47 per cent. of the householders were willing to take supply. The area has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions and will be reconsidered in due course. The board's decision will depend on how the returns for the area then compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Galway district.
