Vol. 157 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray Improvement Scheme.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the cause of the delay in issuing a decision in regard to the scheme put forward by Bray Enterprises, Limited, for the improvement of Bray as a holiday resort, and if he will make a statement in the matter.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte Eireann that the scheme which has been formulated by Bray Enterprises, Limited, for the development of tourist amenities in Bray falls into two parts. The first part comprises works of a non-revenue earning character such as acquisition of sites and provision of essential services, which, if undertaken, would require to be assisted by means of non-repayable grants. The second part of the scheme consists of works of a revenue earning nature which would be eligible to be financed by means of a loan guaranteed by me under the Tourist Traffic Act, 1952.

Representations have been made to me that there should be provision for State grants towards meeting part of the cost of non-revenue earning works at tourist resorts. I am not at present in a position to state whether it will be possible to make any such provision.
