Vol. 157 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Bog Roads.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give in respect of each of the years 1954-55, 1955-56 and 1956-57 particulars of the moneys allocated to the Donegal County Council for the improvement and construction of bog roads, etc., for the purpose of ensuring that ample supplies of turf will be available for the turf generating station now under construction in Gweedore.

The total amount allocated to the Donegal County Council for the years in question is £18,250, which has been made available from the National Development Fund, and is intended for the repair of public roads for which the county council is responsible in the area of the station. An instalment of £8,000 towards the cost of the works was paid to the county council in 1955-56 and it is expected that the balance will be paid in the current financial year.

In addition the need for works on private accommodation bog roads will be examined by the E.S.B. in the light of tenders received by the board for the supply of turf. Where works are considered necessary to facilitate the movement of turf these will be carried out by the Special Employment Schemes Office.
