Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Social Insurance Stamps.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) the number of social insurance stamps of the following denominations sold in the years 1954-55 and 1955-56: 4/8, 2/6, 3/4 and 2/-; (b) the number of wet-time insurance stamps sold in 1953-54, 1954-55 and 1955-56 in (i) Dublin City and County, and (ii) the remainder of the State, in respect of skilled workers, unskilled workers and young persons; and (c) the type of employment to which the several stamps are applicable.

As the reply contains statistics, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information in so far as it is available.

(c) The types of employment to which the several stamps are applicable are as follows:—

4/8: Employment of male persons except in agriculture and in certain employments in respect of which special rates of contributions are payable. These latter include service in the Defence Forces, employment in the Civil Service, under local or other public authorities and as national teachers.

2/6: Employment of male persons in agriculture.

3/4: Employment of female persons except in agriculture, private domestic service or in certain employments in respect of which special rates of contributions are payable. These last include employment in the Civil Service, under local or other public authorities, and as national teachers.

2/-: Employment of female persons in agriculture, private domestic service and as outworkers. Employment of male persons as outworkers or share fishermen.

"Wet-Time" stamps applicable to employment in the building trade, and, as from the 30th May, 1955, in the civil engineering trade and the painting trade:
