Vol. 158 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Service Cards.

asked the Minister for Health if he will arrange for the issue of temporary general medical service cards to casual workers, such as dockers, etc., during periods of unemployment.

Casual workers, such as dockers, who may not be eligible for medical cards during periods of employment but who would be entitled to receive general medical services during periods of unemployment are entitled to obtain from an "authorised person" a direction requiring the appropriate district medical officer to afford to them or to their dependents a general practitioner service either, as may be necessary, in the patient's home or at the appropriate dispensary. Such direction is, in effect, a temporary general medical service card.
