Vol. 160 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Payment Arrangements in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that, as a consequence of the closing of the Garda Síochána barracks at Quigley's Point, those in receipt of unemployment benefit and assistance have to travel to Muff barracks, a distance of up to 12 miles in many cases; and, if so, if he will make arrangements for the attendance of a Garda at Quigley's Point on one day each week.

I am informed that 26 recipients of unemployment benefit who reside in the Quigley's Point area at distances of five to eight miles from Muff Garda station attend each week at that station to have their claims certified. The matter of the establishment of a centre at Carrowkeel where such claims could be certified is one to be decided by the Department of Social Welfare. Should they decide that the establishment of such a centre is necessary the attendance of a member of the Garda Síochána to certify the claims will be arranged.
