Vol. 160 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lough Corrib Levels.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the average summer and winter levels of Lough Corrib, and the estimated average levels when the drainage works have been completed.

The gauge readings taken in the ten years 1940-49 show that the average levels of Lough Corrib over that period were 28.7 feet above Ordnance Datum in summer and 30.1 feet in winter. The minimum and maximum levels recorded during that period were 26.9 feet and 32.0 feet, respectively, above Ordnance Datum.

The levels will continue to depend on meteorological conditions and other factors. The Corrib-Clare drainage scheme is designed to provide a summer level not exceeding 28.0 feet above Ordnance Datum and to pass a flood of 660,000 cubic feet per minute without causing the level of Lough Corrib to rise above 30.0 feet over Ordnance Datum.
