Vol. 161 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Midleton Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent necessity for a housing scheme of 16 houses at Ballinacurra, Midleton, and that sanction for a compulsory purchase order for this purpose, in respect of the lands of Mr. C. Hyde, Ballinacurra, was refused on the grounds that water was not available on the site, although the county council water main passes the road within three yards of the site; and if he will have the matter reopened with a view to speeding up essential housing in the district.

The matter of the acquisition of the site in question was decided by an Order made on the 5th December last and I have no power to reopen it.

Is the Minister aware that his predecessor stated in this House that the scheme was being rejected because there was no water supply available on the site?

Did the Deputy not raise it on the Adjournment, when we went into it in detail?

That was the previous Minister's answer then and when we were assured here on the facts, that the water supply was there, he rushed down to his office and issued that Order the following morning.

The Deputy is not asking a question.

I am not going into the history of this case. I merely stated in my reply that the Order was made on the 5th December last and that I have no power to reopen it.
