Vol. 161 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Profit Margins on Petrol and Oil.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the margins allowed to each branch of the trade in the distribution of petrol.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what alterations have been made in the profit margins on petrol and oil consequent on the increases imposed by the Budget.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 8 and 9 together.

The only statutory control on the profit margins on petrol is the control on the retailer's margins. The retailer's margins are fixed at 3½d. per gallon in the case of standard-grade petrol and at 4d. per gallon in the case of premium grade petrol. The only other petroleum oil on which a profit margin is subject to statutory control is paraffin oil. The control is on the retailer's profit margins. There has been no change in these margins consequent on the increased duties imposed by the Budget.
