Vol. 162 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballycroy (Mayo) Doctor's Residence.

asked the Minister for Health what is the reason for the delay in building the doctor's residence in Ballycroy, Newport.

The local authority's proposal to erect a combined dispensary and residence at Ballycroy was approved by my Department in May, 1951. Difficulties which arose in connection with the acquisition of a site delayed the commencement of the building work and it was not until April, 1956, that the local authority intimated that a contract had been placed, further delays was occasioned by the fact that the local authority permitted the contractor to defer commencing the Ballycroy project until substantial progress had been made on another local dispensary project for which he was also contractor.

I am now informed that the contractor has withdrawn his tender for the Ballycroy project and that before re-advertising for tenders the local authority wish to obtain sanction for the appropriate Local Loans Fund loan. A formal application for such loan has not yet been forwarded by the local authority to my Department.
