Vol. 162 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shankill New School.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Education whether a site has been finally decided upon for the erection of a new school at Shankill to replace the existing Tillystown National School, and, if so, when the work of erection is likely to commence.

A suitable site has been decided upon for the erection of a new school to replace the existing Tillystown National School at Shankhill, County Dublin.

My Department will not, however, be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of the erection of the new school until satisfactory evidence of title to the site has been furnished, in order to enable the plot to be vested in trustees by a lease in the official form. The solicitors acting for the reverned manager are endeavouring to acquire title to the site. The procedure involved in connection with the production of proof of title is, I understand, of a complicated nature and it may be some time yet before the required arrnagements in the matter are completed. In the circumstances, I regret that I am unable to say, at present, when it is likely that work on the erection of the new school will be commenced.
