The consumption of creamery butter within the State during the year ended 30th April, 1957, was 765,854 cwt. Figures of the consumption of non-creamery butter are not compiled in my Department but the Central Statistics Office estimates that the consumption of non-creamery butter during the calender year 1956 (the latest available yearly period) was approximately 386,000 cwt. As to the second part of the question, it is not possible at such an early stage to give an estimate of consumption during the year commencing 1st May, 1957.
Has the Minister not made any estimate of what the decrease in consumption will be in the light of the Budget?
