Vol. 162 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Housing Requirements.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the estimated number of houses which are necessary to satisfy housing requirements in County Kildare in (a) urban areas, and (b) rural areas, and the date of the housing survey on which the estimate is based.

It is estimated that 172 further houses are needed to satisfy the housing requirements of working-class families in the Kildare county health district. The housing needs of the urban districts of Athy and Naas have practically been satisfied.

These estimates are based on the results of a 1945 housing survey, as revised from time to time by further surveys and other investigations.

Could the Minister say the date of the last survey or investigation?

The complete survey is old, but it appears that from time to time it has been added to, and one could not say that any of these investigations has been a complete survey in itself.

May I take it that this information is up to date to the end of last year?

Yes, it is.
