Vol. 163 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Ring Nets.

asked the Minister for Lands if he proposes to reintroduce the by-law prohibiting the use of ring nets in the sea between Dawros Head and Bloody Foreland, which was repealed by by-law No. 490 of the 28th June, 1956.

No reasoned case has been made to my Department for reimposing restrictions on ring-netting for herring since the by-law referred to by the Deputy was revoked by my predecessor. If the Deputy is in a position to submit such a case, I will consider it.

Is the Minister aware that Fianna Fáil candidates prior to the last General Election gave an undertaking that if Fianna Fáil were returned to power this by-law would be reintroduced?

I am not so aware.

Well, I am informing the House so now.

We would not all like to be reminded of the undertakings we gave one way or another.

I am reminding the Minister of one they did give.

There were a few undertakings the Deputy gave as Minister that he did not carry out.
