Vol. 164 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Swords River.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) what progress has been made regarding the drainage of the Broadmeadow river near Swords, (b) whether drainage and dredging work can be commenced before the end of this year, and (c) the estimated cost of such work, and the amount allocated for the initial work on this river.

An engineering survey of the channels in the Broadmeadow catchment commenced in April, 1957, and has recently been completed. The data obtained in the course of the survey are now being plotted, preparatory to the commencement of work on the design and preparation of a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. There is no prospect that works can be commenced this year; and pending the preparation of a scheme and, subsequently, compliance with the requirements of the Act as regards exhibition and confirmation, it is not possible to say what the cost might be or when works in the area might be commenced.
