Vol. 164 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price and Profit Controls.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what goods are still subject to price or profit controls, and if he proposes to remove any of these controls in the near future.

The goods still subject to price or profit controls are sugar, milk, stout and porter, kerosene and motor spirit. In the case of milk, the control operates only in the Dublin and Cork sale districts. In the case of stout and porter, the control operates only in the County Boroughs of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford; the Borough of Galway and the County of Dublin.

In the case of kerosene and motor spirit, the present controls will cease on 31st December next, on the termination of the Supplies and Services Act.

There is a special provision in the Prices Bill, 1957 to enable price control to be exercised in the case of milk, sugar, stout and porter independently of the procedure set out in the Bill for commodities generally.

That situation was slightly changed in the last few minutes.
