Vol. 165 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord na Móna: Salaries and Expenses.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the salary and expenses paid to the chairman and members of Bord na Móna since 1st April last, the expenses paid in respect of visits abroad, and the purpose of these visits.

The remuneration of the chairman of Bord na Móna is £750 a year, that of the managing director, whose appointment is whole-time, is £3,000 a year and the remuneration of each of the other members is £500 a year. In addition, members are paid in respect of journeys undertaken to attend meetings of the board or to transact the business of the board, such travelling expenses and subsistence allowances as are appropriate to a civil servant of the highest grade. Visits abroad by members of the board, the purpose of the visits and the total expenses incurred are matters of day-to-day administration about which I have no information.
