Vol. 165 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road and Tractor Accidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state how many fatal road accidents, and accidents involving tractors, have taken place since 1st January, 1956.

The number of fatal road accidents since 1st January, 1956, as recorded to date in Garda Headquarters, is 589.

The number of road accidents involving tractors in 1956 was 57 and in the first quarter of 1957 was 11. Later figures are not available as the returns for 1957 have not yet been analysed.

Does the Minister not consider that these figures are most alarming?

They certainly are not encouraging.
