Vol. 165 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Personation at 1957 Election.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state how many individual cases of personation or alleged personation were brought to his notice by the Garda Síochána in respect of the General Election, which took place on 5th March, 1957, and the number of such cases which referred to Dublin County constituency and, further, the number of cases in respect of which the Attorney-General decided that no action should be taken by the State.

The number of cases of personation or alleged personation which came to the notice of the Garda Síochána in the last General Election was six. Two of them related to Dublin County. In two cases submitted to the Attorney-General, he directed that no proceedings were to be taken.

I was informed that there were 500 cases of personation in our centre on that occasion.

The Deputy ought to advise his followers to stop it.
