Vol. 165 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indicators of Measurement on Oil Delivery Tankers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received a resolution from Donegal County Council requesting that visual indicators of measurement of oil and petrol be provided for delivery tankers, and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

I assume that the type of visual indicator to which the Deputy refers consists of a sight-glass on the outside of a road tank which is connected with the tank so that the level of the liquid in the glass is the same as in the tank. I am advised that this system has no such merits as would justify its being imposed compulsorily on suppliers. Developments in other countries are being kept under review, and should a system which gives promise of greater accuracy than that now in use be developed consideration will be given to introducing it here.
