Vol. 169 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Institute of Advanced Studies.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state (a) the total cost of the establishment and maintenance of the Institute for Advanced Studies since its foundation, and (b) the total number of salaried employees in the Institute.

The total cost of the establishment and maintenance of the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and its Constituent Schools up to the 31st March, 1958, was £745,044. A sum of £69,300 has been voted in respect of the financial year 1958-59, (b) The total staff of the Institute and Constituent Schools at present remunerated out of voted moneys numbers 47. There are three vacancies on the staff.

In the light of the present financial stringency is it not about time that expenses on the Taoiseach's silly toy, which is so useless, were eliminated? It should be scrapped as it is a waste.

That is your opinion.

The Minister for Health says that he cannot find money to vaccinate children.

A little less play-acting would be better.

There should be a little less of the play-acting and more reality from the Taoiseach.
