Vol. 170 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Capital Investment Advisory Committee.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the fact that the second majority report of the Capital Investment Advisory Committee is dated the 4th November, 1957, and the Addendum is dated the 2nd December, 1957, he will state the reasons for the delay in publishing this report.

I have nothing to add to my reply to a similar question on 18th June last which explains the matter fully.

Mr. Costello

asked the Minister for Finance if the Government proposes to accept the recommendations of the second report of the Capital Investment Advisory Committee; and, if not, if he will state the reasons for not accepting the recommendations.

The Government's proposals on matters dealt with in the recommendations of the Committee concerning the Housing Acts are at present before the Dáil in the Housing (Amendment) Bill, 1958.

Does the Minister not consider it desirable, as he is the Minister responsible for the Capital Advisory Committee, that the Minister introducing the Government's decision should at least pay the committee the courtesy of informing the House—and through the House, the committee— which of their recommendations were being implemented and which were not? The Minister concerned never mentioned the Capital Advisory Committee from beginning to end of his speech.

That is not a question; it is an assertion.

It would be a very big matter to deal with by way of question and answer.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the terms of reference of the Capital Investment Advisory Committee and the undertaking given in its first report that it would consider the desirable volume and composition of public investment and the manner in which that investment should be financed, he has requested the Committee to make a further report; and, if so, when he expects this report from the Committee.

The matters referred to fall within the scope of the Committee's third report which will be published in due course.
