Vol. 171 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Education Fees: Tax Rebates.

asked the Minister for Finance whether in view of the absence of adequate free educational facilities in secondary schools and other post-primary educational establishments he will consider allowing tax rebates for educational fees paid by middle income group parents who are attempting to provide for the complete education of their children.

I regret that I cannot see my way to propose legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.

In view of the many concessions to shipowners, insurance brokers, flour millers and master bakers, would the Minister not reconsider the decision to help the white collar section of the public who, in very difficult circumstances, are endeavouring to educate their children to the best of their ability?

Concessions are made to those, too.
