Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Royal National Hospital for Consumption.

asked the Minister for Health what sums were granted out of funds under the control of the Department of Health to the Royal National Hospital for Consumption for Ireland over the three years ending 31st March, 1951; and if he will specify the particular purposes for which they were granted.

During the three year period ended 31st March, 1951, grants totalling approximately £174,800 were paid out of the Hospitals Trust Fund to the authorities of the Royal National Hospital for Consumption for Ireland towards the cost, estimated at £290,000, of schemes of development and improvement at their institution at Newcastle, County Wicklow. The schemes referred to included the provision of two new ward blocks, the purchase of an adjoining property to provide accommodation for nurses, the provision of a new residence for the resident medical superintendent, repairs to existing buildings and avenues, improvements to the kitchen, laundry and boilerhouse and the purchase of furniture and equipment.
