Vol. 171 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilworth (County Cork) Lands.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have yet taken over from the Department of Defence the Lands of Billereagh, Araglin, Kilworth, County Cork, and, if not, what stage negotiations have reached; if he is aware of the urgency of the matter in view of the high rents payable, the insecurity of the tenancies, and the fact that, though the tenants are rated occupiers, they are deprived of the advantages of tenant farmers, being unable to obtain loans from the Agricultural Credit Corporation or grants under the farm buildings scheme or the land reclamation scheme; and if he will state when the tenants will be accorded the benefits of the various Land Purchase Acts.

Possession of these lands has not yet been obtained by the Land Commission. An offer for purchase has been made and is at present under consideration in the Department of Defence. The Deputy's representations have been noted and, as far as the Land Commission is concerned, there will be no avoidable delay.

Legislation was passed through this House a long time ago to enable this to be done.

We are getting near the point.
