Vol. 171 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Game Rights on Mayo Estates.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission own the game rights in the former estates of Lucan 1, 2, 3 and 4, E. M. Kelly, Blosse-Lynch, Hope-Scott, Peyton, Mark Blake, Moore 1 and 2, Fitzgerald-Kenney, Marquis of Sligo 1 and 2, Tuohy, Pringle and Acton and Ormsby; in what cases the game rights were retained by the landlord; and if he will state the names and addresses of the tenants (if any) to whom the game rights have transferred on vesting.

The question relates to 18 very large properties which were mostly dealt with many years ago by the former Congested Districts Board. The current records do not enable a comprehensive reply to be readily given. Indeed, so many thousands of tenants are involved that it would be quite impracticable to give comprehensive information by way of parliamentary reply.

If the Deputy is interested in any particular townlands, I shall ask the Land Commission to send him the appropriate information.

Is information available with regard to the game rights vested in the Land Commission when these estates were taken over?

In the case of many of them, they were vested in the Land Commission. In the case of others, on revesting, they were vested in the tenants.

If the Minister has that information, that is all I want to know.

It would be difficult to state them without referring to an examination of something like 4,000 tenants. If the Deputy desires any specific information, he might frame a question to that effect, or go to the Land Commission, where the records will be made available.
