Vol. 171 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if county managers continue to be bound by the terms of Local Government Circular EL. 76/50, dated 23rd December, 1950, which fixed differentials payable at the discretion of county managers to road overseers, foremen, gangers, storekeepers and engineers' clerks; and if he will make a general statement regarding the up-to-date conditions governing the control of remuneration exercised by him in connection with the wages of these employees.

The Circular letter in question sets out, among other matters, the maximum differentials that may be paid to certain classes of local authority employees. The maxima set out still apply.

If local authorities generally wish to review those conditions, I am prepared to consider any proposals that they may submit for this purpose.
