Vol. 173 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Grant: Assessment as Means.

4.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether the £5 per school-going Irish-speaking child payable by the Department of Education is taken into consideration by officers of his Department when assessing means for any purpose whatever in any household in which the said £5 payments are being made.

Why, then, do the officers of the Minister's Department ask that specific question when they are making investigations?

I am not aware that they ask the question.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that unemployment benefit is taken into consideration when means are being calculated in relation to a medical service card?

That has nothing to do with the question on the Order Paper.

I did not know the Minister was the Parliamentary Secretary.

I like to keep Deputies opposite in order.

The Minister knows everything except what he is paid for knowing.
