Vol. 174 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio-active Fall-out.

12.

asked the Minister for Health whether any steps are taken to keep a check on the amounts of radio-active fall-out being precipitated within the State; and, if so, whether any significant increase in the amount has taken place in recent months.

I am advised that the establishment of centres throughout the country for the measurement and interpretation of radio active fall-out would require considerable outlay on highly specialised staff and equipment. Having regard to the fact that the information already being collected and published in Great Britain can, I understand, be extrapolated to cover this country, the matter is not felt to be one of immediate urgency.

Consideration is, however, being given to the possibility of introducing in this country a limited system of measurement of air and water radio activity.
