Vol. 174 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Territorial Waters: Six County Fishermen.

26.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he will take action, including, if necessary, the introduction of legislation, to provide that fishermen from the Six-County area will not be liable to prosecution if they fish within the three mile limit of the State.

While I have every sympathy with the Deputy's suggestion, I see many difficulties in the way of its implementation. I shall, however, have the matter fully considered.

Does that mean that the Minister has the matter under active consideration at the present time and that a favourable decision is likely to be taken?

The matter is under consideration and a decision will be taken as soon as possible.

Does the Minister know whether facilities exist for fishermen from this part of the country for fishing within the three mile limit in the Six County area?

No, they do not.

They are not allowed to fish?

There is nothing like setting a good example.
