asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the landings, weight and value of herrings landed at the various ports in the State for the year ended 31st January, 1959.
With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together and to circulate with the Official Report a statement showing for the year ended 31st December, 1958, the weight and value of white (demersal) fish and herrings for each port where the total value of landings (including mackerel and shellfish) exceeded £10,000 in that year. The landings at these 25 ports represent almost 80% of the total value of landings in the State. Statistics are compiled for some 165 separate centres. To give the information for each of these centres for the periods mentioned in the Questions would involve expenditure of time and effort which, in my opinion, would not be justified. If, however, the Deputy desires such information for a small number of the centres, arrangements can be made to supply it to him.
