Vol. 174 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of “Advance” Factories.

4.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the Government have made any decision about building "advance" factories to meet special circumstances such as those at Shannon Airport: and, if so, if he will give details.

I indicated during the debate on the Supplementary Estimate for Aviation and Meteorological Services in the Dáil on the 3rd March, 1959, that the provision of "advance" factory accommodation at Shannon Airport by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company was designed to meet the special circumstances there.

There is at present no intention on the part of the Government to provide "advance" factory accommodation in other areas.

Can we take it that it is the intention of the Government to provide "advance" factories in the Shannon area?

That is right.

Does the Minister envisage that the West of Ireland, that area consisting of the congested districts, will now receive the same attention as the Shannon area?

I have replied to that question already.

The Minister has, in a most unsatisfactory fashion. It is time he changed his mind.
