Vol. 174 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valuation of Houses for Loan Purposes.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the dissatisfaction that exists amongst builders in Dublin city because of the difference in valuations for loan purposes of similar houses, and of the considerable drop in valuations within the last three years; whether he has investigated the matter in so far as it affects the purposes of the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts; and whether he proposes to take action to remedy the situation.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. The Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Act, 1957, which was enacted following consultation with the building interests, provides machinery by which contentions in regard to assessments of market value under the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts may be submitted for consideration by the Commissioner of Valuation. This is not a matter in which I have any function.
