Vol. 174 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio-Active Fall-Out.

7.

asked the Minister for Health whether, using the information published in Great Britain extrapolated to cover this country, he will state whether there has in fact been any increase in radio-active fall-out in recent months over Ireland.

As the amount of radio-active fall-out in Britain has been rising, we may take it that there has been an increase in radio-active fall-out over this country also; but I should emphasise that here, as in Great Britain, the fall-out is well below the maximum permissible level.

In view of the progressive increase in the amount of fall-out disclosed by the Minister and of the very dreadful genetic changes associated with fall-out, is there nothing that we can do, as a small neutral nation, to protest against the continued dropping of these bombs?

I do not think there is any use in making a vain protest. Perhaps, the Deputy could find some way of persuading his friends not to drop these bombs.
