Vol. 174 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Passengers Disembarking at Shannon Airport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of passengers disembarking at Shannon Airport, who were carried by (a) Aerlínte, and (b) other air lines in the twelve months ended 28th February, 1957 and 1958.

As the Aerlínte service did not commence until 28th April, 1958, I presume that the question is intended to refer to the twelve months ended 28th February, 1958, and 1959, respectively.

The total number of transatlantic passengers (i.e. from the U.S. and Canada) who disembarked at Shannon Airport during the year ended 28th February, 1958 was 18,176.

The corresponding figure for the year ended 28th February, 1959, was 25,723 passengers, of whom 5,843 were carried by Aerlínte and 19,880 by other companies. It will be noted that the Aerlínte figures related to a period of ten months only while the other figures related to a full year; further, Aerlínte did not, of course, carry any passengers direct from Canada.
