Vol. 174 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Foreign Parcel Post Depot.

29.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will re-establish the foreign parcel post depot at Waterford in view of the great inconvenience and delay caused to Waterford traders at the foreign parcel post depot at Amiens Street, Dublin.

Only a small number of parcels for Waterford would be more expeditiously cleared through a customs depot there than at Dublin. As the cost would be entirely disproportionate, the re-establishment of a parcel post customs depot at Waterford would not be warranted.

Given the requisite co-operation from traders in complying with customs requirements, undue delay in the clearance of parcels through Dublin should not arise. In general, I am unable to agree that the existing arrangements cause great inconvenience but if the Deputy is aware of any such instances I shall be glad to have them investigated.

The Deputy is so aware and he will see the Minister about a very grave case of hardship of one of our constituents. I want to ask him does he know that one of his constituents——

I do not think——

——sent an import permit to Amiens Street on 11th March. He received several notices since and he has written back to say that they have the licence, but they still write back to him for the licence.

Does the Deputy know that that seems to be a separate question?

The Deputy does not care now, Sir. He has said it.
