Vol. 174 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of State and Semi-State Bodies.

1.

asked the Taoiseach what progress has been made in regard to the examination of the question of bringing State and semi-State sponsored bodies under closer control of the Oireachtas.

As the Minister for Finance informed the House on the 15th April, 1958, the views of the Chairmen of the State-sponsored bodies were sought on the matter raised by the Deputy. These views have since been obtained and the next step is to see whether, in the light of these views and of other relevant considerations, any proposal can usefully be made for a change in the present position.

As far as the Government are concerned, may I take it that the intention is to pursue this matter with a view to bringing about a change?

The final portion of my reply is that "the next step is to see whether, in the light of those views and of other relevant considerations, any proposal can usefully be made for a change in the present position."
