Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Transport System in Donegal.

3.

Cormac Ua Breisleáin

andLiam Mac Cuinneagáin asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether consideration of the question of the public transport system in County Donegal, which has been before his Department for a considerable period, has yet been completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Public transport in County Donegal has been affected in the last few years by a number of major transport developments, namely, the closure of the cross-border secondary lines, the threatened closure of the Portadown-Derry line, the termination of the 1953 G.N.R. agreement with the Ministry of Commerce, Belfast, and the amalgamation of the G.N.R. undertaking in the State with C.I.E. In dealing with these developments, I have kept and am keeping in mind the public transport needs of the county. It is too early yet, however, to say what final pattern of public transport may emerge in Co. Donegal.

The Deputies may rest assured that due publicity will be given to any proposals affecting public transport in the county and local interests will be given ample opportunity of expressing their views before any final decisions are taken.
