Vol. 176 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Irish Publications for British Institutions.

19.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to a recent court case in which a firm of Cork publishers was prosecuted for failing to supply free copies of its publications to various British universties; and if he will introduce legislation to protect Irish publishers from having to supply their publications free of charge to such institutions.

I am aware of the case in which a publisher was prosecuted for failure to comply with the provisions of subsection 2 of Section 178 of the Industrial and Commercial Property (Protection) Act, 1927.

With regard to the second part of the question, it has already been announced that the copy right law is being reviewed, and interested persons have been invited to submit their views. I cannot now anticipate the proposals which will be introduced in the Oireachtas in due course.
