Vol. 177 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish-British Trade Talks.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement on the progress of the trade talks between the Irish and British Governments.

During the conversations which I and two of my colleagues in the Government had with British Ministers in London on 13th July last, it was agreed that senior officials of the two Governments should meet to examine economic questions of common interest to the two countries and that, in the first instance, they should study suggestions which we made for improving trade between the two countries.

The first of these meetings of senior officials was held on 10th September, 1959. Further meetings are to take place. In the circumstances, it would not, I think, be appropriate for me to make any fuller statement at this stage.
