Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Affairs: Attitude of British Government.

11.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether Irish affairs have been transferred from the Commonwealth Office to the Foreign Office by the British Government; and, if so, whether Irish men and women in Britain are in future to be regarded as foreigners, and in consequence no longer subject to compulsory service in the British Forces.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and the second part of the question does not therefore arise. I should add, however, that I am not aware of any suggestion from any quarter that the status of Irish men and women in Britain should be changed in any way.

Can the Taoiseach say if discussions have been held which would suggest that a transfer such as that mentioned in the Question will take place?

There has been no discussion.
