A grant was recently sanctioned for the erection of the first section of a new school to replace Sexton Street Convent N.S. The first section will accommodate 488 pupils in all classrooms. Tenders have been invited by the manager's architect in the case and have been submitted to the Commissioners of Public Works for their consideration.
In the following cases the proposals are as shown:
(1) a girls' school in the Ballinacurra-Weston district, having accommodation for 640 pupils;
(2) a school to replace the St. Vincent de Paul Senior and Infants' Schools having accommodation for 704 pupils;
(3) an infants' school at Corbally having accommodation for 128 pupils.
A suitable site has been offered by the Revd. Manager in each of these cases. Certain preliminary arrangements which are being attended to will have to be completed before the Department will be in a position to sanction grants towards the cost of the new schools.
The question as to the need for extending St. Patrick's Boys' and Girls' National Schools is under consideration.
