Vol. 179 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University College, Dublin: Transfer of Site.

106.

asked the Minister for Education when the Government intends to seek the approval of the Dáil in relation to its proposal that University College, Dublin, should be transferred gradually to the site in the College grounds on the Stillorgan Road, Dublin.

As far as can be foreseen at present, Dáil Éireann will be given an opportunity, before the end of the present session, of discussing this matter.

Does the Minister appreciate the fact that if he is prepared to expend £2,000,000 on the colleges at Galway and Cork he will save the Government and the country £12,000,000?

That is a separate question.

I am putting it to him as something that will come up.

Could the Minister indicate at this stage what form the opportunity of discussing the matter will take? Will it be by way of a White Paper, by way of Supplementary Estimate or what form is it likely to take?

I cannot give the Deputy that information at the moment.

Is the Minister further aware that overcrowding is caused by looking for students in the other provincial areas?
